Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles had a successful art reception last night.
Crazy 4 Cult 3D is a third annual show which Gallery 1988, along with filmmakers
Kevin Smith and
Scott Mosier created this spectacular event. 100 Artist are given an opportunity to reinterpret their favorite classic cult films.
The event was packed with fans, among them were actor
Seth Green, and writer/director
Michael Dougherty. The walls were filled with artwork from many artists with a variety of talent and styles. From a glance, it was obvious that
Edward Scissorhands and
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was an influential film for many artists. To the fans, this event brought back childhood memories and starting group discussions with one another. The theme of this event is definitely interesting, and it was nice to see the interpretation from artist
Dan May and
Nathan Spoor, whom I have previously blogged. It is always nice to see fresh work from all artists that I admire.

The beauty of nature, captured by Piotr Adam Szuszkiewicz from Wroclaw, Poland. These photos are taken with a Nikon digital SLR in Iceland during the winter of 2008. I question if the photos are digitally enhanced? But due to limited english from Piotr, that was never communicated. Either way, these are still very beautiful. The composition of the landscape with the saturated colors are very inviting. Piotr and his girlfriend, Pati are both photographers.
Distorted and unfocused surrealistic imagery with reminiscent of 18th century paintings, Chris Berens' technique is one of a kind. His paintings has a photographic essence without using any traditional media. Chris paints with water-based inks and oil paints on a smooth printing paper, giving him the option to smudge, scrape, rewetting and drying in order to reshape his art. He would continue to paint on transparent plastics, cut and paste them over his painting to create depth and layering effect.
