Ominous Playland

Coney Island was the largest place for amusement park lovers which attracted several million visitors per year back in the late 1880s to early 1930s. Today, Coney Island is a faint history known for their famous Cyclone roller coaster, Wonder Wheel, and carnival food. There have been many developments to restore this historic landmark.

Brandon Forant has always visualized this place as an ominous playland and an imaginary mythical place. Brandon stated, "Since my move to New York, I've found quite the opposite. Its a community of middle class hard working people that is slowly changing to accommodate the installment of upper class condominiums and chain corporations." He called his photography project "Croney Island." He wanted to recreate the eerie desolation of Coney Island that he has imaged as a youth. Brandon used multiple exposure to achieve the full dynamic of contrast and colors in one image, then eliminated certain colors and shadows for the desired visuals. Brandon is a graduate of Philadelphia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Graphic Design Communication.
